2015 Fitness Trends

Whether you ‘gave it some’ at Zumba, hit it hard at HIIT training, or perhaps lifted the heaviest weights yet in the gym, 2015 brought with it some addictive fitness trends that definitely raised our heart rates over the course of the past year.

But what were the top 10 fitness trends of 2015? (It certainly wasn’t hours on the treadmill if that’s what you’re thinking!)

Health & Fitness crazes in 2015

Bodyweight Training

That’s right, as predicted by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Bodyweight Training hit the fitness hotspot for 2015.

Push-ups, press-ups, sit-ups, the plank, lunges and squats; bodyweight exercises don’t require much equipment, but will have you lifting and moving your own bodyweight wherever you are. It’s no surprise that bodyweight training is so popular since you don’t even need to be at a gym to participate, and, what’s more, this sort of strength training is beneficial to any sport.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

Strapped for time but still want the buzz of exercise and to feel super-fit? HIIT Training is definitely for you! HIIT training is basically short bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by super short rest periods of low intensity work.

CrossFit

CrossFit wasn’t predicted by the ACSM as hitting the hotspot but is an extremely popular fitness trend all the same. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, it is an exciting combination of bodyweight training, HIIT, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, and more, all in a competitive atmosphere.

Personal Training

Personal training is popular amongst new exercisers and high-performance individuals. Whether you are looking to get fit or peak for a certain sports event, personal training is definitely for you.

At Entire Training, we offer a great range of health and fitness courses that can help set you on your way to becoming a personal trainer or gym instructor.

Activity Trackers

Activity trackers, like Fitbit, Garmin forerunners, TomTom Multisport and other cardio watches, are hugely popular, and a useful way to monitor your workouts.

Strength Training

You might think that lots of cardio workouts are the best way to burn calories and fat, but strength training is an important factor in helping you build muscle and get leaner.

Strength training is undoubtedly a popular fitness trend, that got many of us body building in 2015.

Yoga

Yoga is almost a lifestyle choice as well as a healthy form of exercise. Whether you wake up every morning at 5am to salute to the sun or attend a weekly yoga class at your local gym, yoga is most definitely a fitness trend that is loved by lots of different people.

Studio Fitness

Think  studio cycling, aerobics and body pump; studio fitness gets you sweating, breathing hard and feeling part of a community (all in one!).

Real-life (Functional) Fitness

Functional fitness programmes are based on real-life activities, like carrying heavy groceries and doing the laundry (useful, right?).

Group Personal Training

Another hit for those who want to be a personal trainer, group personal training classes are hugely popular! Exercising in a group helps with motivation (and makes it slightly cheaper for people to participate too!).
